It’s been as week since I got back from Panglao. I haven’t done much serious training since the last time I’ve written, just some sets of kneeling push-ups here and there as well as 2 pool sessions that were mainly just coaching sessions. It’s been such a busy week — from moving into my university dorm, to making training plans for the freediving club, teaching the freshmen and coaching for a static competition. I felt like I didn’t even have the time to breathe. And as fulfilled as I feel, I’m exhausted.
A major challenge this semester will be to balance my own training with club activities outside of my academics. My time is limited and I’ve yet to come up with a structure that allows me to train alongside the other club members. It’s tough, and some help will be very much appreciated. Though sometimes, I don’t know who else to ask. I’m hoping that after the first few weeks, the freshmen will be reliable enough to train on their own, with me checking in on them occasionally.
I’m restarting my base training officially today. I’m heeding Thibault’s advice on cycling between dry (strength) and pool (CO2) work so that I can have adequate rest times in between and see actual progress. So this coming week, I’ll have two upper body and two lower body strength training days, with two 40 min cardio sessions I’ll squeeze in during the pool trainings.
Week 1 Base Training:
SUN — upper body
MON — rest
TUE — lower body + 40 min cardio (swimming)
WED — rest
THU — upper body + 40 min cardio (swimming)
FRI — rest
SAT — lower body
Rather than giving updates after every session, I will be updating on a weekly basis.
Em is conducting a workshop on Prana. I know it’s going to be quite a spiritual session, and I’m not sure if I’m ready for that. I want to learn more, but I’m not sure if I’m ready to accept its teachings yet.
